VA SB 118 and HB 1272 Progress to Opposing Chambers
Virginia remains very active this week with iGaming bills passing both the House and Senate. A summary of this, plus access to latest versions of each bill are available on the Member Portal.
Next week, it is expected that the bills will begin their journey into the other chambers. While it is unlikely the two bills would be identical after this process, our goal is to get the bills to a conference committee where their differences can be worked out. This keeps iGaming alive, allowing for a deal to be made among legislative leaders for several outstanding gaming issues including the establishment of the Gaming Commission.
Several key lawmakers, including the Governor, have stated that they want the Gaming Commission established before they consider expanding other gaming in Virginia.
The iDEA team and our lobbyist have been extremely active to engage lawmakers over the past several weeks, which played a significant role in the success of getting these bills passed. The team is on the ground meeting with lawmakers again and will have an active presence during the next wave of public hearings (and private discussions) which will occur over the next 2 weeks.
