Wyoming iGaming Study Suggests iGaming is “Accretive” to Casinos

November 19, 2024

The study conducted by Spectrum Gaming on behalf of the state of Wyoming Gaming Commission is now available and attached here.

The study covers several gaming related topics that may be considered in the state as they continue to expand their regulated gambling options, including the potential for iGaming.

Of note, the study has found that iGaming is “accretive rather than cannibalistic to casino and distributed gaming sectors.” The authors examined the impact of iGaming in West Virginia, which has similar distributed gaming model to Wyoming when making this determination. Moreover, the study suggests that operators could generate collectively between $93m and $138m in gross gaming revenue in its first year of operation and grow up to $199m by year 5. Based on tax rates, the state would collect $20m to $30m in year 1 and up to $40m in year 5. The iGaming section of the study begins on page 53 of the attached report.

Finally, the study recommends that Wyoming increase their online gambling age (to cover sports betting as well) from 18 to 21 years of age.
